The abandoned concrete structure was supposed to be either rest house or hotel now providing a shelter to migrant labors, plants and weeds. Initially the habitants were reluctant to let me stay because they thought I might write or report about their occupation. However, after talking they let me stay and also offered tea in the end. The wild plants were grown all over including concrete, wood and fabric. This future wasn’t planned for the site when designed, however, I experienced the sense of resistance, fight for survival and adaptability together.
I ONLY ALLOW NATURE TO ENTER
July 26, 2019
Gazebo, Governor House, Murree
I only allow Nature to Enter, is questioning the idea of Nature as pure and growing amount of concrete structure in Murree’s neighborhood threatens it’s natural landscape. While thinking from perspective of colonial past, when these trees were introduced to the landscape of Murree and in other parts of colonized land for multiple purposes e.g. for railways /domestic consumption/ furniture etc. So it’s already contradicting our ideas to preserve it as Natural.
The two site specific drawing performances entitled I only allow nature to enter and I didn’t allow ‘Nature’ to enter into the Concretecame as a result of three days field sessions at Gazebo, Governor House Murree. The works was produced during three weeks of Murree Museum Residency tilted Pouring Concrete Curing Mountains.
Exhibited at Resource Center Murree & AAN Gandhara Art Space Karachi
Project Realized Under the Framework of, POURING CONCRETE CURRING MOUNATAINS, Murree Museum Residency
